Job Report Update October 2023
Update on NZ Employment as at 30 September 2023.
Information supplied by RCSA’s ‘The Jobs Report’ for New Zealand.
New Zealand's national employment index is experiencing a resurgence, with a notable 3.7% upturn in the September quarter, following three consecutive quarters of contraction. This promising development came to light through the latest Jobs Report by the Recruitment Consulting and Staffing's Peak Body (RCSA), which tracks job listings across specialised employment platforms throughout the country.
This rise in job opportunities follows a sharp 10.8% decline in job postings during the preceding three months, up to the end of June.
While job advertisements have increased over the past three months, employment conditions are still considerably below the levels seen a year ago, with job advertisements remaining 21.8% lower than they were in September 2022.
Data from the Jobs Report indicates that employers are now prioritising permanent employees over a flexible workforce. During the September quarter, there was a 5.7% rise in advertisements for permanent staff, while flexible job opportunities experienced a 6.3% decline.
