Full-time, Permanent
Dunedin, Otago

#5482
  • Lead and develop a high-performing engineering and project delivery team
  • Diverse civil, rail and infrastructure project portfolio
  • Competitive package including full-use vehicle + family friendly benefits

Step into a leadership role overseeing civil and rail projects while developing people, driving delivery and influencing outcomes.

Our client is a well-established infrastructure contractor delivering civil, rail and infrastructure projects across Otago.

Due to an internal promotion, an opportunity has become available for a Contracting Division Manager to lead a team of engineers, project professionals and technical specialists while overseeing a diverse project portfolio.

This is a strong next step for an experienced Project Manager or Contract Manager who enjoys developing people, driving delivery, and contributing to winning work.

About the Role

Reporting to a Senior Division Manager, you will lead the Contracting and Rail teams, ensuring safe, efficient and high-quality project delivery across multiple workstreams.

You will oversee Graduate Engineers, Engineers, Surveyors and Project Managers, providing leadership, direction and support while contributing to overall operational and commercial performance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and developing a multidisciplinary project delivery team
  • Driving safety, quality and continuous improvement standards
  • Overseeing delivery of civil, rail and infrastructure projects
  • Managing budgets, risk, variations and contractual performance
  • Supporting pricing, tendering and work-winning activity
  • Building strong client and stakeholder relationships
  • Ensuring effective allocation of people and resources across projects
Why Dunedin?

Based in Dunedin, this role offers the chance to step into a leadership position where you have real influence over people, projects and outcomes - without the scale and complexity that can dilute impact in larger centres.

Compared with larger markets such as Auckland, Dunedin offers a more direct line of sight to decision-making, stronger ownership of delivery, and the ability to genuinely shape team culture and performance.

You’ll also enjoy a more balanced lifestyle, with shorter commutes, strong community connection, and easy access to coastlines, hills and outdoor recreation - while still working on technically interesting infrastructure projects.

About You

You may currently be a Senior Project Manager, Project Manager, Contract Manager or Operations Manager ready to step up into a broader leadership role.

You will bring:

  • 5+ years civil contracting or infrastructure experience in New Zealand projects
  • Proven experience of NZS3910, NZS3916 and NZS3917 contract conditions
  • Solid project management and delivery capability
  • Experience managing budgets, risk and commercial outcomes
  • Proven experience successfully pricing, tendering and securing work
  • Proven leadership and team development ability
  • Strong communication and stakeholder skills
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach
  • Engineering qualification or equivalent experience

Rail or KiwiRail experience is an advantage but not essential.

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive salary package
  • Full-use company vehicle
  • Real career growth opportunity
  • Medical insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Enhanced KiwiSaver contributions
  • Parental leave top-ups and return-to-work support

If you’re ready to step into a leadership role where you can influence delivery, develop people and make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you.

You must be entitled to live and work in New Zealand to be considered for this role.
